Our classroom and who we serve:
CIELO de Amor has developed a play-based classroom for children with disabilities from birth to 21 years. More than 32 children with a variety of disabilities including cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism, developmental delay, arthrogryposis receive services in the classroom and home. Physical therapy is provided within the classroom, at home, and the local swimming pool.
The children are divided into small groups according to age and ability. The classroom staff are all local to La Concepción and include psychologists, teacher and a physical therapist. Family members also stay in the class, so that they can learn strategies to support their child at home.
The day is structured, to include free play, individual work time, circle time, music, dancing, games, books, outside time, snack, craft activities. We address all domains of development throughout our day, and use a variety of therapeutic strategies to build skills, including activity-based intervention, picture exchange communication system (PECS), sensory activities.
